Our purpose
Home projects often start with a deceptively simple question: how much should I buy or budget? We build focused calculators that answer that question without hiding the math. Each tool states its units, formula, allowance, limitations, worked example, and source logic. Alongside the calculators we publish longer field guides that explain the judgment calls a calculator cannot make for you.
Who runs this site
Cost My Reno is independently operated. Editorial and engineering work is carried out by the site operator with substantial AI assistance, and the editorial policy says so plainly. There is no staffed newsroom, no licensed contractor on staff, and no claim of professional credentials that have not been independently verified. When a question needs licensed trade judgment, structural design, code interpretation, or hazardous-material work, our pages point to qualified local professionals instead of pretending to replace them.
How this site is built
The public site is a static-first application deployed on Cloudflare, so calculator math runs in your browser and pages load without a database round trip. Every guide illustration is an original technical diagram drawn as SVG by a script kept in the same project, then checked by a layout linter for overlapping or clipped labels before publication. Source links are re-tested over the network so a citation does not quietly rot. Those checks cover arithmetic, layout, and link health; they do not certify a job site, and we say that wherever an estimate could be mistaken for an inspection.
Our editorial standard
Every calculator is designed around established measurement conversions and practical ordering conventions. We prefer government agencies, model-code bodies, trade associations, and manufacturer technical literature as references. We do not copy retailer descriptions or present national averages as local quotes. Guides state their assumptions, show worked numbers, and cite the references that informed them rather than paraphrasing a single page.
Independence and corrections
Cost My Reno does not accept payment for calculator results, rankings, or source inclusion. Advertising, if introduced after review, will be labeled and separated from calculator controls. If you find an error, email editor@costmyreno.com with the page, input values, expected result, and a supporting reference so we can reproduce and correct it. We aim to acknowledge substantive corrections within five business days, and material fixes change the review date shown on the page.
The community forum
Discussion lives on a separate subdomain at forum.costmyreno.com. It is a distinct area with its own moderation and content rules, and it is not part of the calculator or guide library reviewed here. Questions about a specific estimate belong in the correction inbox above, not in the forum.
What we are not
We are not a contractor, engineer, architect, code official, or materials supplier. Our estimates help with early planning; they do not replace site inspection, stamped design, product instructions, permits, or qualified professional advice.
